I kind of can’t believe this made the news. I know people will post this tomorrow anyway but hopefully enough will see my post to dismiss it.

12/9/24 11PM Brooklyn: I have the same view of the Verrazano as this woman. Yes, they are bright lights that then go to red and green because they get closer. Yes. they are in a triangle formation. What she saw is almost certainly planes coming from the south going to LaGuardia. I could see each light in the sky on Flightradar24.

I just looked again and now the sky is empty as is Flightradar24.

I do believe she is genuine and is worried, not trying to just be on TV. But I think it’s just one more example of why this shit needs to be cleared up, bare minimum some “what a drone vs. what a plane looks like” PSA infographic and educate about flight tracking from your phone. That’s not a big fucking deal and it would calm people down. People are starting to panic from misinformation, which can run over into social behaviors. The public needs a clearer picture here. Now. I’m sure some spin doctor can come up with something suitable, to at the very least head off junk reporting like this at the pass.
