Meteorology: Cirrus at 7,500 meters, temperature 8.1°C, dew point 5.5°C Season of the year: Winter Witnesses: Communication Department of the Chilean Air Force Description: During the morning of September 17, 2010 and during the celebration of the bicentennial of Chile, the Halcones High Acrobatics Squadron of the Chilean Air Force passed by paying honors over the Government Palace at a time when the raising of the national flag on the esplanade of the Plaza de la Ciudadanía, in Santiago. To record that historic moment, photographers from the Air Force Communication Department took a series of shots from the roof of the Ministry of Defense, on Zenteno Street. The photographs were sent to CEFAA by that Department to be analyzed after transferring them to the computer and observing something anomalous around the aircraft. The Halcones High Acrobatics Squadron flew its single-engine propeller aerobatic planes in close formation, at level, towards the south at an altitude of 3,500 feet above the city. All the members of this squad activated their white, blue and red smoke traces just before reaching the Palacio de la Moneda; None of the pilots recalls noticing any deviation of the magnetic compass or any other electromagnetic anomaly in their instruments during that part of the flight. The photographs were taken with a Nikon D-300 camera with a focal length lens between 18 and 22 mm (F/13), each exposure was 1/125 second equivalent to ISO 200 speed with 4288 pixels wide by 2848 pixels. high and a resolution of 300 pixels per inch. Images: Twelve high-resolution color photographs were received from the Communication Department of the Chilean Air Force.

Conclusion: An analysis of these images was requested from the National Center for Reporting Anomalous Aerial Phenomena, NARCAP, an organization in the United States that, through Dr. Richard F. Haines, made a detailed report to CEFAA. This fortuitous phenomenon was classified as an Anomalous Aerial Phenomenon, FANI, having as background that after photographic analysis it was discovered that: (1) The shape of the FANI varied from photo to photo, but remained approximately the same size. The photographs are a second apart. (2) In at least four photos, FANI had a relatively symmetrical shape that could be described as the top of a sphere surrounded by a dense ring similar to that of the planet Saturn. (3) During a period of approximately eleven seconds the FANI moved across the sky towards the west in approximately twenty degrees of arc and also upwards to an undetermined distance since neither the distance nor the size of the FANI were known. (4) A luminosity display revealed a lightly colored halo around it that may represent heat radiating and rising from FANI's core. It is assumed that this FANI may have been concentrated plasma whose energy level was sufficient to ionize gases in the atmosphere and produce various shades towards white.
