Description

This happened over a year ago, but I (31F) was recently telling some friends and family about it. Long story short, they convinced me to post everything here to see what other people make of it, so here goes nothing!

On Saturday, January 25, 2025, around midnight in Hyde Park, NY, I was lying in bed when something outside my window caught my eye.

From where I was watching, there appeared to be a curved/half-circle-shaped object covered in bright, multicolored lights in the southeastern sky. At times, it remained completely stationary, while at other points, it would move in different directions but always stayed in view and always remained in the half-circle position regardless of its movement.

After watching it for a while and trying to figure out what I was looking at, I started recording it on my phone at around 12:15 AM. That is the first video (35s).

While recording, I noticed strange light flares appearing near the bottom-right portion of the frame and in the sky during the latter half of the video. Up until that point, I’d never noticed my phone doing anything like that before.

This object was mesmerizing enough that I eventually ran to grab my camera to try to get a closer look (second video, 46s recorded around 1:30 AM). I thought by the time I got back it would be gone or I would have lost sight of it, but it was still there in the same position. \*The line crossing through the object = a telephone line, not part of the object.

I tried taking photos with both my phone and camera, but I couldn’t get a clear image. Regardless of the settings I tried, the object either wouldn’t come into focus or appeared distorted. I included one of those photos, but the 46s video is the closest and clearest I could get.

At around 2 AM, I finally got back into bed. It was still visible, and I continued watching it until I eventually fell asleep. Does anyone have an idea what this could have been? Has anyone else in the Hudson Valley ever witnessed something similar?
