Description

As I mainly write on Facebook, I decided to share this story that keeps coming back. A pilot wrote to me, sharing his short story about the objects he encounters during flights.

Hello, I am a pilot with many years of experience and thousands of hours spent in the air, mostly over Europe. I wish to remain anonymous. For the past three years, I have occasionally observed a phenomenon in the sky that is difficult to explain. My fellow pilots have also witnessed this phenomenon.

Most often, in the evening hours, bright lights appear, moving in groups in different directions. Sometimes they form some structures, but most often they scatter in all directions. Interestingly, they never do this simultaneously – each object starts moving in its own direction.

Among pilots, there is a theory that this may be the effect of sunlight reflecting off Starlink satellites. However, as a regular observer of the sky, I know that satellites move at a constant speed and cannot suddenly accelerate. Before 2020, there were also many satellites in low orbit, but I never saw such a phenomenon. Discussions on this topic are becoming more frequent among pilots, and I believe we will soon know the truth. Regards.

There have also been several other pilot stories on Reddit with recordings – we have combined the best fragments and attached them to this post.

It's worth mentioning the incident from January 19, 2024. At least four pilots from different planes flying over Canada exchanged comments with the control tower about objects they couldn't identify.

"I'm not an expert, but they are moving sideways, moving away from each other, and then forming triangles," reported an Air Canada pilot flying from Seattle to Winnipeg, passing over Saskatchewan.

"These are definitely not satellites," added a pilot from Morningstar Air Express, flying from Calgary to Toronto. "This is something completely different from anything I've seen in 15 years of night flights."

The fact that pilots question the theory of reflected light from Starlink satellites is nothing new. Every day we receive videos and photos with various bright points in the sky. Honestly, I envy the pilots for being able to witness this phenomenon up close. Although this story may have a mundane explanation, it is incredibly fascinating, and discovering the unknown is like a drug – it’s addictive, even though these are just guesses and theories.
