Description

I am evaluating one specific unresolved UAP case using a falsification-first approach. The goal is NOT to prove that the object is non-human. The immediate goal is to test whether ordinary/terrestrial explanations—especially a free-floating balloon—survive quantitative checks against the available public evidence.

Location: Baghdad, Iraq (geolocation reconstructed from visible ground features)
Date: 1 January 2025
Video: U.S. military electro-optical/infrared footage. The public clip contains an IR portion followed by an EO portion.

WHAT WE CAN ESTABLISH FROM THE VIDEO
-------------------------------------
1. The object is visible as a small point in the IR portion before the EO transition.
2. The object remains the tracked subject through the transition to EO.
3. The apparent movement is not simply camera panning: the object changes position relative to recognizable ground features while those features remain consistent.
4. The EO footage provides recognizable ground features that can be compared with satellite imagery/maps.
5. The reconstructed ground trajectory is approximately SE -> NW.
6. The trajectory was reconstructed using recognizable roads/intersections and an athletics/stadium complex rather than relying on the camera's on-screen compass.
7. A plausible matching area was found around the Al-Jadriya/Dora area of Baghdad, including Jisr al-Jami'ah (جسر الجمعية) and the Faculty of Physical Education stadium. This is a geolocation reconstruction, NOT an official confirmation of the sensor's coordinates.

IMPORTANT ASSUMPTIONS

- The public video does not provide original telemetry, slant range, sensor elevation/azimuth data, target coordinates, target altitude, or exact range.
- The trajectory is reconstructed from map/geolocation matching of visible ground features.
- The object's speed was estimated from the mapped trajectory and assumed/estimated timing, not official telemetry. ~4.6 km mapped trajectory from 50s of the video to 93s of the video → ~170–415 km/h projected motion, But we cannot completely separate: object motion from aircraft/sensor geometry without more information.
- The altitude of the object is unknown.
- The trajectory is more defensible than the absolute speed because it uses recognizable ground references, while range and altitude remain uncertain.

IMPORTANT CONVENTION:
The sounding's direction is the direction the wind is COMING FROM.
Therefore 310° means wind coming FROM NW and moving TOWARD SE.

This is notable because the reconstructed UAP ground trajectory is approximately SE -> NW, broadly opposite the measured low-to-mid altitude wind flow in this 12 UTC sounding.

The surface Weather Underground record for Baghdad on the same date also showed predominantly NW winds during the day, with speeds roughly 7–26 km/h in the displayed observations.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE BALLOON HYPOTHESIS

This does NOT completely disprove a balloon.

It does create a concrete, testable problem for a simple free-drifting balloon explanation though.

If the object were simply being carried by the atmosphere, its horizontal ground motion should be broadly compatible with the wind vector at its altitude.

The 12 UTC Baghdad sounding shows NW/NNW winds through the lower atmosphere and NW/WNW winds at higher levels, generally carrying air toward SE/ESE.

The reconstructed object movement is approximately SE -> NW.

Therefore, at least for the 12 UTC atmospheric profile, the observed trajectory does not look like straightforward passive wind drift.

Important limitations:
- The exact video/event time must be established.
- The object's altitude is unknown.
- The Baghdad sounding may not exactly represent the air mass at the object's precise position/altitude.
- We need to account for the difference between 12 UTC and the actual event time.
- A balloon explanation could involve ascent/descent through changing wind layers rather than a single-layer drift.

CONCLUSION
-------------
Relatively solid:
- The object is independently moving relative to the visible ground scene.
- The EO/IR portions appear to track the same object.
- The ground scene can be geographically matched to Baghdad with a plausible trajectory.
- The reconstructed direction is approximately SE -> NW.
- A real Baghdad upper-air sounding exists for 12 UTC on 1 January 2025.
- That sounding shows predominantly NW/NNW winds in the lower/mid atmosphere, transitioning to WNW at higher altitude, generally toward SE/ESE.
- Therefore the observed trajectory is not an obvious passive wind-drift match at the 12 UTC sounding.

NOT established:
- Exact altitude
- Exact range
- Exact speed
- Exact sensor/platform
- Exact event time
- Exact three-dimensional trajectory
- What the object is.
