Description

I took this video on 7 March from my bedroom window facing south toward the Capitol building. I didn’t realize how bizarre this looked when I recorded it, but I watched it the other day when I was deleting screenshots and useless videos from my camera roll. I think I assumed it was a drone or helicopter, but I never really saw one this bright. There’s a second light source (orb?) mirroring the brighter one’s pulses and it moved pretty erratically. I noticed some other smaller objects that randomly flash too. Sorry for moving so much while recording. The smaller orb seemed to move most whenever I readjusted my camera, so I’m super annoyed at myself for moving so much. But I think I have this recorded on my Ring doorbell cam too so I’ll download the vid and upload if there’s any interest.

two bright light sources

Two bright light sources are visible against a dark, cloudy night sky. One light appears as a large, bright, out-of-focus orb, while the other is a smaller, dimmer point of light to its left.

Possible explanations

  • bokeh/out-of-focus lightsThe large orb's appearance is consistent with a bright light source being significantly out of focus.
  • aircraft lightsA bright aircraft with landing or strobe lights could appear as a large orb if out of focus.
  • planets or starsThe lights could be bright celestial bodies captured in a low-light setting.
  • reflection on glassSince the photo was taken through a window, the lights could be reflections of interior or exterior light sources.
