Description

I was digging through old photos last week and came across this one where I got a weird effect 'in the sky.' I just wanted to share it for fun and to see if anyone else has ever seen something like it show up on their b&w film. You can see the weird effect on the negative and it's not 'newton rings' from the scanning process. I had the film in a holder above the glass on my scanner. I was just out burning up film and taking photos out of boredom. The location was Ames, Iowa. No, I didn't see anything when I took the photo, which is probably why it's just some flaw in the film base. That said, I've developed hundreds of rolls of film over the years with Rodinal and haven't ever seen any marks like that show up on any of my negatives. I shot hundreds of feet worth of Fomapan 400 back in the day and never saw anything like that either. I have managed to solarize the sun -slightly- on b&w negatives but never a fully black dot like this.

Photo nerd details:

* Pentax K1000 35mm SLR camera with the factory 50mm f2 lens
* Fresh dated Fomapan 400 film from a 100 foot bulk roll
* Fresh Rodinal developer 1:25
