Description

Off the coast of India exists an isolated island know as North Sentinel island. On it exists a tribe known as the Sentinelese, one of if not the last uncontacted tribe. The tribe effectively lives in the Stone Age and is hostile to visitors.
In 1981 a large freighter ran aground close to the shore of the island. In the years after it was observed that the tribe was using the wreckage to give themselves knowledge of metal working, mainly for tools such as spears.
In 2018 a missionary known as John Allen Chau visited the island in an attempt to bring religion to the tribe. (We won’t get into missionary work here) he was killed shortly after by tribesman. Attempts to retrieve the body were met with hostility and were ultimately unsuccessful.

What the purpose of this story is that I propose that perhaps earth is in a similar situation. We may be akin to an uncontacted tribe who has gained some metal off a crash ship, and are using it with a primitive understanding and no ability to reproduce it.

North Sentinel island is also protected by the government of India by an exclusion zone to protect the Sentinelese from outsiders.

Perhaps these ships that visit us are akin to the missionary who was warned multiple times not to go to the island. The main “government” that is in charge may give warnings not to go to earth and then owe no responsibility attempting to rescue or retrieve the equivalent of a fishing boat and rogue pilot.
