Description

I've never told anyone this - but here goes. I have always been interested in UFO/UAP, but I am very skeptical. I always believed that in 99% of the sightings that there is a less exciting explanation. I have watched the skies since I was a kid, but I've never seen anything I couldn't explain. (I've never seen anything more exciting than planes and birds!)

About 15 years ago I moved from TN to Florida. One morning, as I was driving on I95 to work, I saw something I had never seen before. This was around 7 AM or so, and the sun was just barely up. I saw a disk shaped object hovering at what appeared to be about 150 feet above the roadway. Traffic was stop and go, so I had the opportunity to see this thing very clearly for a long time. It was stationary, seemingly floating above the roadway. It appeared to be between 5 and 15 feet long classic disc shape. I began to get very excited. This was before I had a smart phone, so I tried to take a picture with my flip phone, but it wasn't light enough and the resolution was poor. The drawing below is my rendition of what I saw.

As I got closer and it grew lighter, I got more excited. Finally I was close enough and it was light enough and I really saw the thing. It was not a UFO.

It was an osprey's nest. Very similar to this https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisthisthing/comments/ep7xdh/tall_moss_co…

In my years in TN I never saw a birds nest that large. I assumed that I would know what I was looking at, but being new to FL - I just did not have the experience or understanding to allow me to identify what I was looking at.

All of this just to say that being a skeptic doesn't mean you don't want to believe. That experience made me feel a little foolish, but it was a real world example of wanting to see something, and it made me a better skeptic.

TL;DR - I thought I saw a UFO. It was an osprey nest on a light pole. I am a doofus, but it made me a better skeptic.
