Submission Statement
On April 15, 1966, U.S. Coast Guard / Navy photographer Lee Hansen (also known as Leland Hanson) was on assignment filming Catalina Island from a helicopter when he captured this rare UFO footage.
The metallic, football-shaped object — estimated at around 20 meters (65 feet) wide — was filmed flying at an estimated speed of 130–170 mph with no visible wings, tail, or propulsion system. Hansen described it as silver with a dark underside, appearing metallic in the bright California sunlight.
This is one of the clearest and most credible pre-digital era UFO videos ever recorded, shot on 16mm film during a routine Navy photographic mission. The footage has been analyzed by independent experts and even reviewed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
