Description

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but there seems to be some periodic peaks around the use of the word "UFO" in books. Are there specific events that occurred around those peaks? I wish they had data from 2021-2025. The use of the word has been increasingly popularizing since 1950, and I assume we see it table off around 2016/2017 because the switch to the word "UAP". Looking at a snapshot of the use of UAP, there must have been some other popular uses of it since its peak was around 1998/1999. Maybe the switch of the name from UFO to UAP wasn't simply administrative but an attempt to disassociate lexical data describing trends? UFO was a fairly unique acronym that probably only referred to Unidentified Flying Objects since it started in popularity in the 1950s. UAP appears to have had some meanings before it began popularization in 2017.
