Description
I am restating now with the full description, didn't realized it was required.
The Twining Memo, dated September 23, 1947, is one of the earliest and most significant official documents to acknowledge the seriousness of the UFO phenomenon within the U.S. military structure. Written by General Nathan Twining, then head of Air Materiel Command, and addressed to the commanding general of Army Air Forces, it stated unequivocally:
Twining described observed characteristics—unconventional flight behavior, extreme maneuverability, evasive performance—suggesting technological capabilities far beyond anything publicly known at the time. He explicitly recommended formal investigation and technical analysis, laying the groundwork for what would become Project Sign, Grudge, and ultimately Blue Book.
In short: this was not speculation, but internal military recognition that “flying discs” warranted structured, classified attention. The memo stands as a foundational crack in the wall of denial—a moment when the curtain was briefly pulled back, and the system confessed, in writing, that something unexplainable was operating in U.S. airspace.
It remains one of the few historical documents that is both unambiguous and official.
