Description

Here are some rare photographs of the Trepang after breaking through the ice in the Arctic in 1971, the same period when the famous photos were taken. Strangely, they take this opportunity to attach two sensor or weapons pods to the bow of the Trepang. I have only seen something similar on SSN-684 Cavalla, but in that case it's a single pod, completely smooth, probably for sonar. In the case of the Trepang, we have a dual pod setup, and the face of the pods are clearly not smooth. I am calling these UAP attractors, because we know what comes later for the Trepang, but I would love if someone with true knowledge could comment on what the functions of these attachments may be.

I'd like to call your attention to these pods because they may be a part of the mystery of the Trepang UAP/USP photos. I'd also like to call your attention to this webpage (http://www.cavalla.org/ssn684_tale1.html) discussing the SSN-684, and it's 'pride and glory', something still so secret the author claims they would need to kill to protect it.

Note as well how the pods are covered for the entire time the SSN-674 is sitting with crew outside. Seems as if the crew itself is being kept out of the loop. Once the Trepang is underway, as seen in the photographs, the pods are completely uncovered, probably because the crew is now inside.

Further, if you intend to research what the Trepang was doing in the arctic in 71, you need these terms:

'WEPEX 1971', 'WEPEX 71', and the ship names 'Cutter', 'USS SKATE SSN-578', 'HMS DREADNOUGHT SSN01'

These ships were all part of the WEPEX (weapons exercise) in the Arctic in 71. I have submitted FOIA for more info, and suggest others who do more research do the same. I have yet to dig into any of them other than the Trepang, so it may be that further research will yield more info on whether those objects were target balloons or something else.
