Description

• Night of Aug 8–9, looking north over the water along the Indiana-Michigan border
• Dozens of slow-moving lights near the eastern edge of the Big Dipper, confined to a \~10° patch of sky
• Usually one at a time (occasionally 2–3), about as bright as the stars, brightened then faded like flares
• No strobing (planes that night were clearly strobing)
• Independent trajectories and speeds — some appeared to slow, speed up, or move inbound
• There were also a good number of standard meteors streaking across the sky during the same period
• 10-second iPhone exposures \~12:30–2:00 AM; the short streaks in the photo are just the moving lights during the exposure (stars stayed points)
Several satellite or debris passes with traditional tumbling flashpoints were observed during this time
