Description

The footage should be familiar to some, perhaps not to others. It was somewhat controversial, reaching a point where it was claimed to be clearly a "fish", specifically a Ribbonfish (http://www.lorpexfish.com/en/frozen-pelagic-fish/40-ribbon-fish.html). However, the argument doesn't quite add up.

In the video, starting at 01:15 from both sides and within the clip itself, the object is just too symmetrical. The "fish", on the other hand, is not that symmetrical.

Additionally, the speed observed is atypical for a "fish" under 400 meters it's just how they evolved. Energy is a hard to come by resource so anything that lives in the twilight zone or below don't move fast (or at all even) so they can save as much energy (https://letstalkscience.ca/educational-resources/backgrounders/life-i…) as possible.

And If it were a "fish", why didn't the squid move at such a high speed? The squid itself is a Stigmatoteuthis dofleini (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stigmatoteuthis_hoylei), measuring up to 19 cm / 7.5 inches, which is quite small. This implies that the fish would also be small and should have been noticeable through clear movements on the squid's body when it was so close.

Now It is more plausible that the object was farther away and, consequently, very large.

It's not as if USOs are an unknown phenomenon. I believe the clip shouldn't be forgotten until it is definitively resolved.
