I don't think it's a coincidence that the Star Trek writers and scriptwriters have chosen such a unique and unstreamlined way to portray a ship. There are several conspiracy theories that affirm that the series from its beginning was made to prepare us for a future where we relate to NHI. I personally agree with those theories. The show, in addition to being sci fi, brings modern philosophical discussions, in my opinion, very ahead of its time.
