On the morning of April 11th, 1980 at La Joya Airforce Base (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Base+aerea+la+joya/@-16.7796445,-71…) in Southern Peru. A group of military personnel was lined-up for inspection outside their base. General Luis Spicer, was training Peru's Air Force personnel at La Joya AFB. At approximately 07:15 AM, the AFB control tower reported to the squad that an UFO had been detected within the AFB airspace.

The unknown aircraft was not responding to radio commands sent by the control tower. Asking the unknown object to identify itself. Upon observation, the personnel could see a large and bright luminous object (https://conexaoufo.com/wp-content/uploads/conexao_UFO_oscar-santa-mar…) closing in, flying towards the base. There were about 2,000 military personnel at the time, who witnessed this incident.

A military jet was scrambled. A Sukhoi Su-22 (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/49/003_Sukhoi_Su-22_…) a super sonic swing wing Russian-made aircraft. This jet was dispatched to intercept the unknown intrusive flying object. Lieutenant Oscar Santa Maria Huertas (https://interactivo.eluniversal.com.mx/2018/10anios-enigmas/img/exped…) piloted the jet. He was a student of General Luis Spicer. Santa Maria was given clear orders that "If the unknown object isn't ours, you can shoot it down." Santa Maria described his experience to Lue Elizondo on the History Channel show "Unidentified (https://www.history.com/shows/unidentified-inside-americas-ufo-invest…;

"At around 07:15 AM, the control tower made our squad aware of the presence of an unidentified flying object that wasn't reporting itself. Approaching, it was some kind of aircraft, similar in shape to a hot air balloon (https://cdn.wallpaper.com/main/2019/07/doug-aitken-new-horizon-p.jpg). This object had no authorization to enter our military zone. The squadron chief came to me and ordered me 'Oscar execute the mission.' I flew close to it and I could recognize that the object wasn't any kind of terrestrial aircraft. At that moment, it hit me: 'What is this thing?' Oscar's training officer adds:

"There was some kind of brightness surrounding the object. Almost like some kind of halo (https://cdn.siasat.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Sun-Halo.jpg). A very bright halo. The halo was huge in size, compared to the jet." —General Luis Spicer

"I had to make a maneuver, not to get too close. I assumed a shooting position. And when I was almost within shooting range, the object suddenly rose. Going upwards, the object left me without a target to shoot. "—Oscar Santa Maria

Basically, Santa Maria was chasing the object to get within shooting range and every time he would get close enough, the object would execute a highly evasive maneuver. This occurred three consecutive times. General Luis Spicer pointed out that:

"This object was capable to surpass the maneuvering capabilities of the Sukhoi Su-22 (https://www.cybermodeler.com/aircraft/su-17/images/su-22_profile01.png). It was much more powerful." —General Luis Spicer

Oscar elaborates:

"I finally focused well on the object. I pulled the trigger, shot a burst of 64 Howitzers, and waited to see "the globe" explode, but it didn't happen. It didn't explode, it started a rapid ascend."—Oscar Santa Maria

Essentially, the UAP was absorbing the fire and it displayed no change, no damage. Eventually Santa Maria, disengaged his pursuit of the UAP, which went away. When Santa Maria returned to base, he drew this sketch (https://content.api.news/v3/images/bin/02784d07496e8b591252039e66e0a2…). Which shows an object that by all known laws of physics, should not be able to fly nor absorb gunfire. This incident, is one of the best documented UAP cases involving the military in South America. According to the Peruvian government, at the time, this incident was reported to the US government. Specifically the CIA, The National Security Agency, as well as the Secretary of State.
