Chilean destroyer encounter (1969) — A Chilean informant says a navy destroyer was approached by six objects, one larger than the ship.
According to the testimony, a Chilean source reported that on 24 October 1969 a Chilean navy destroyer was approached by six unidentified objects, one of them larger than the ship itself. The account was published by an Australian UFO researcher who said the source had spoken to him directly, and it appears on the Water UFO website, which catalogues sea-related sightings.
We haven't been able to find any Chilean navy record or other independent account of the encounter, and the ship and witness haven't been named publicly. The Chilean military did later establish an official UFO study office, now called CEFAA, under its civil aviation authority, which has published some cases.
The story is one of many reports of unidentified objects near ships, a category often called USOs (unidentified submerged objects) when they enter the water. It remains a single-source account.
