The five observables are five unusual flight characteristics that former Pentagon official Luis Elizondo says are commonly reported in UAP encounters by military personnel. He says he compiled them while running the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP). The list was popularised by Elizondo's work with To The Stars Academy and the 2019 History channel series Unidentified.[1]
The list
- Anti-gravity lift: objects seen overcoming gravity with no visible means of propulsion and no wings or other flight surfaces.[1]
- Sudden and instantaneous acceleration: changes of speed or direction so abrupt that a human pilot could not survive the forces.[1]
- Hypersonic velocity without signatures: speeds faster than sound without the vapour trails or sonic booms such speeds normally produce.[1]
- Low observability, or cloaking: objects that are hard to see clearly by eye, radar or other sensors, often appearing only as a glow or haze.[1]
- Trans-medium travel: objects that move easily between space, the atmosphere and water.[1]
The Nimitz example
Supporters often illustrate the list with the 2004 USS Nimitz encounters. Witnesses described a wingless white object shaped like a Tic Tac. Radar operators on the USS Princeton said they tracked an object moving from a standstill to 60 miles in a minute, and witnesses described a disturbance under the sea surface beneath the object.[1]
Status
The list is Elizondo's own compilation, drawn from witness accounts that he says he reviewed while at AATIP. The objects described remain unidentified, and their capabilities are known only from those accounts.[1]
