Daniel Sheehan, a constitutional and public-interest lawyer, said in 2021 interviews that information about UFOs had been controlled by a narrow group since the end of the Second World War, and that alien technology recovered at Roswell in 1947 had been monopolised for Cold War advantage.[1][2]

Sheehan was born in 1945 in Glens Falls, New York, and graduated from Harvard College (1967) and Harvard Law School (1970). He worked on cases including the Pentagon Papers, the Watergate break-in, Karen Silkwood and the La Penca bombing, and founded the Christic Institute and the Romero Institute. In 1986 the Christic Institute brought a conspiracy suit on behalf of journalists Tony Avirgan and Martha Honey; it was dismissed in 1988 and the institute was ordered to pay substantial costs.[1]

Sheehan has acted as counsel to Harvard psychiatrist John Mack and to Steven Greer's Disclosure Project. In 2021 he represented Luis Elizondo, former head of the Pentagon's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, in a dispute with the Department of Defense. In May 2021 Politico reported Elizondo's 64-page complaint to the Pentagon inspector general accusing officials of a campaign to discredit him, and quoted Sheehan on its effects.[1][3]

In an August 2021 interview summarised by Gaia, Sheehan described roughly 30 wealthy families that, in his telling, had consolidated power after the Civil War and by 1947 controlled the military-industrial complex. He said that when technology from the Roswell crash was studied, this group kept it to itself to benefit the United States and its allies in the Cold War, a strategy he said lasted until the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. He also said officials had switched from "UFO" to "UAP" to shed the old term's baggage.[2]

Sheehan offered no documents for these claims, which draw on his own experience and on what he says sources told him.[2]
