Philip J. Klass (1919–2005) was an American journalist who worked for more than 40 years at Aviation Week & Space Technology, specialising in avionics. He became the best-known UFO skeptic of his time.

In his first book, UFOs—Identified (1968), he suggested that many sightings were ball lightning or plasma. Later books, including UFOs Explained (1974) and UFO Abductions: A Dangerous Game (1988), argued that cases were misidentifications, hoaxes or the result of suggestion. He challenged the Travis Walton abduction, the MJ-12 papers and Roswell claims, and offered cash bets against researchers' predictions.

Klass co-founded what is now the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry in 1976. Researchers often clashed with him, but his work set a standard for skeptical investigation.
