Puthoff's report of a new secret study (1972) — Hal Puthoff tells Vallée a former NSA colleague said a new secret UAP study was underway.
In his journals, published as Forbidden Science 2: California Hermetica (1970–1979), Jacques Vallée recorded that on 7 October 1972, physicist Hal Puthoff told him a former colleague from the National Security Agency had said a new, secret UFO study was under way. Puthoff had served in Naval Intelligence and worked at NSA in the 1960s before joining SRI.
No such study has been documented, and the NSA colleague isn't named. The entry is one of several in Vallée's journals from the 1970s reporting rumours of continued government interest after Blue Book closed in 1969.
Supporters of a hidden program point to these entries as evidence that official study continued in secret. Others see them as reflecting rumours circulating among intelligence-linked scientists. Puthoff's involvement in UAP research continued for decades, including the 2007–2012 AAWSAP program.
