Thomas E. Bearden (1930–2018) was a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel who promoted claims of "scalar" electromagnetics and free energy.
Claims
Bearden said scalar waves could be used as weapons and to extract energy from the vacuum. In 2002 he co-patented a "motionless electromagnetic generator", which he said produced more energy than it consumed. Physicists say this violates the conservation of energy, and the device was never shown to work. He also claimed he had seen energy extracted from the quantum vacuum.
