Dan Sherman, a former Air Force electronic intelligence specialist, wrote in Above Black that alien-related projects were hidden beneath less classified "cover" missions, so that a person assigned to one was also assigned to an ordinary black mission.[1]
Sherman's explanation
As quoted by Michael Salla's Exopolitics news site, Sherman wrote that one reason for pairing each alien project with a collateral cover mission was that anyone who revealed alien information would probably also reveal something about the cover mission. He said his own ELINT work served as cover for Project Preserve Destiny, which he says he worked in from about 1991 to 1994, and that he used a specially designed computer for both kinds of work.[1]
The Snowden slides
In 2014 The Intercept published leaked NSA slides about "Sentry Eagle", an umbrella for the agency's most sensitive "Exceptionally Controlled Information" programs, showing how such programs could be hidden within less classified ones. Salla argued that this supported Sherman's description. The slides do not mention Sherman or any alien program.[1]
Context
Sherman's description of super-compartmented programs echoes later claims, including David Grusch's 2023 testimony that UFO programs were hidden within special access programs not properly reported to Congress.[1][2]
Assessment
Sherman remains the only source for his program, and no document or other participant has confirmed it.[1][3]
