Army helicopters and cattle mutilations (2001) — Vallée hears of cattle mutilations linked to Army helicopters.

According to Jacques Vallée's journals, in February 2001 he heard a story linking the 1970s cattle mutilations to helicopters and a possible Army black program, based on a deputy sheriff's account of tracking helicopters near mutilation sites.

Unmarked helicopters were reported repeatedly during the mutilation wave, and military and law enforcement agencies denied involvement. The FBI investigated cattle mutilations in New Mexico around 1979–80, and its Rommel report found that most cases were consistent with natural death and predation.

The helicopter theory has remained popular, especially among ranchers and some law enforcement officers who investigated the cases. The FBI's mutilation file is available on its Vault website. The Army black program link remains unproven.
