Vallée on privatized UFO research (2002) — Vallée writes that UFO research has likely been privatized in the U.S.
In May 2002, Jacques Vallée wrote in his journal that UFO research in the U.S. had likely been moved into private hands, outside government oversight. He based this on years of conversations with insiders who described contractor involvement and on the absence of any visible government program.
The idea of privatized UFO research anticipates later claims. In 2023, former intelligence officer David Grusch told Congress that the government had recovered non-human craft and that defence contractors held material, outside proper oversight. In 2024 the Pentagon's AARO said in its historical report that it found no evidence for such programs.
Vallée's view was a judgment from his own experience, not based on documents. It's one of the earliest clear statements of the "privatized program" theory.
