Stephen Lovekin said he served with the White House Army Signal Agency from 1959 to 1961, during the Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations, and told Steven Greer's Disclosure Project that he was shown UFO material and that President Eisenhower felt he had lost control of the subject to industry. He spoke at the project's press conference at the National Press Club on 9 May 2001.[1][2]

According to the Disclosure Project, Lovekin entered the military in 1958 and joined the White House Army Signal Agency in May 1959, serving until August 1961. He said he worked as a cryptologist with a top-secret clearance at the Pentagon. He later became a lawyer in North Carolina.[1]

Lovekin said an officer showed him a metallic fragment said to come from a 1947 crash in New Mexico, that at a Pentagon briefing an officer said three or five alien bodies had been recovered, one partly alive, and that in 1959 a Project Blue Book officer showed him an object resembling a yardstick with inscriptions described as "symbols of instruction". He said Eisenhower was very interested in UFO propulsion and lost control of the matter to corporations, and that an older officer with CIA ties warned him that dissenters could be "erased".[1]

Eisenhower's farewell

Lovekin's account is often linked to Eisenhower's 1961 farewell address warning about the "military-industrial complex", which some UFO researchers interpret as a reference to UFO secrecy. Historians generally understand the speech as a warning about defence spending and influence, not about UFOs.[3]

Lovekin's claims are his own recollections of second-hand or undocumented briefings, and no affidavits or corroborating records are known. Researcher Kevin Randle noted that Lovekin's title of brigadier general came from the North Carolina State Guard Association, a civilian volunteer group, not the Army.[1]
