In a 1974 oral history interview for the Truman Library, Landry said that in 1948 Truman asked him to report every quarter on any UFO sightings that might be of national security interest. Landry said the reports were given orally, with nothing written down, and that he received his information from the Central Intelligence Group and Air Force intelligence. He said nothing he reported suggested a threat. His account is one of the few first-hand descriptions of presidential interest in UFOs in that period.
