Philip G. Strong was a CIA officer in the Office of Scientific Intelligence in the early 1950s, as a senior officer.
Role in UFO history
In late 1952, Strong worked with OSI chief H. Marshall Chadwell on the agency's response to the summer wave of UFO sightings. On 2 December 1952, they met leaders at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, including provost Julius Stratton, to discuss whether MIT's Project Lincoln, which was working on air defence, could study UFOs. The idea was not pursued, and the CIA instead convened the Robertson Panel in January 1953. Strong attended the panel's sessions.
