Julius Stratton (1901–1994) was an American electrical engineer and physicist who served as provost and later president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1959–1966). He later chaired the Ford Foundation.
UFO connection
On 2 December 1952, CIA scientific intelligence officials H. Marshall Chadwell and P.G. Strong met Stratton and other MIT leaders to ask whether MIT's Project Lincoln, the air defence research effort that became Lincoln Laboratory, could study UFO reports. The CIA records describe the discussion, but the project was not taken up, and the agency organised the Robertson Panel the following month instead.
