In 1956 Coleman said that official statements about UFOs followed a manual, and he reported seeing an unidentified object himself while flying a B-25 in the 1950s. In 1973 he was among Air Force contacts who encouraged filmmakers Robert Emenegger and Allan Sandler to make a documentary about UFOs, which became UFOs: Past, Present, and Future (1974). He also produced the TV series Project U.F.O. (1978–79), based on Project Blue Book cases.
