John W. McCormack (1891–1980) was a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts for over 40 years, serving as House Majority Leader and Speaker of the House (1962–1971).
UFO interest

In 1958, McCormack chaired a House select committee on astronautics and space, which was briefed by the Air Force on UFOs and civilian UFO groups. In February 1961 he told reporters he believed the Air Force was not sharing all it knew about UFOs, and said he thought some were real. His comments were among the strongest by a congressional leader in that era.
