Edward Dudgeon is a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II on a destroyer escort at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
The Philadelphia Experiment

In 1994, Dudgeon told Jacques Vallée that the legend of the Philadelphia Experiment, in which the USS Eldridge supposedly became invisible in 1943, came from real but ordinary work: ships were "degaussed", passed through electric cables to reduce their magnetic fields so they would not set off magnetic mines. He said sailors' stories were exaggerated into the legend. Vallée published the account as an explanation of the myth.
