Nat Kobitz was a U.S. Navy engineer who served as director of science and technology for the Naval Sea Systems Command.
Coulthart's account

In September 2021, journalist Ross Coulthart said that before his death, Kobitz had told him he had been read into a crash-retrieval program. The claim was made public in Coulthart's reporting and in In Plain Sight. It cannot be checked, since Kobitz did not discuss it publicly.
