David M. Jacobs (born 1942) is an American historian who taught at Temple University in Philadelphia for many years.
Historian of the UFO controversy
His doctoral research became The UFO Controversy in America (1975), one of the first academic histories of the subject, covering the debates between the Air Force, scientists and civilian groups. It is still respected.
Abduction research

Influenced by Budd Hopkins, Jacobs began using hypnosis to study abduction claims in the 1980s. In Secret Life (1992) and The Threat (1998) he argued that aliens were abducting people to create human–alien hybrids who would eventually integrate into society. His methods and conclusions were heavily criticised, including by some former subjects, and many researchers who value his historical work reject his abduction claims.
