So I was on my way home the other night (I live in a rural part of CA). As I got closer to home I noticed a moving bright light about 500ft-600ft above me. I thought oh someone is flying their drone, but I noticed this drone did not have the usual green and red lights. When I went to turn into my neighborhood the light appeared to much lower and right over me. At this point I thought someone was messing me ( I was the only car on the street). So I decided to keep driving because now I wanted to see if this thing was really following me. I was going to wait it out, thinking the battery will run out eventually. I kept driving around and it kept following (much lower now). At one point I thought I lost it, so I turned off my car and lights and parked under a tree. Not even a second later this thing was about 80 feet above on my left. This is when it really freaked me out, I rolled my window down and this was dead silent. I have DJI drones and you can hear them even they are 300 feet above you. But, this thing made no sound whatsoever.

I was too freaked out to go home and I didn't want this thing following me home, so I drove in the opposite direction towards town. I was surprised to see that it wasn't following me out there but I could still see it. It was still over my neighborhood, but much much higher 1000+ ft. It felt like it was watching. I drove around some more and it remained stationary at the same altitude.

It has been about 30 mins at this point and I get a call from my wife (I should have been home by now). I told her what was happening and at first she dismissed it, but then I asked to take a look outside. The next thing I hear is "oh my god it's right above our house" (silent) I couldn't see it anymore because it had dropped down to about 80ft again. This thing knew where I lived?? I never went home! At this point I said Fuck it and drove straight home. It was still there when I pulled into the garage. When I went outside to take a look, it was gone. All we ever saw was the light, never saw the shape or size. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? We're really creeped out.

Edit: So my dad took this pic in June of this year. This object was completely silent too, it didn't follow my dad, but flew over our neighborhood multiple times. The one I encountered was a single bright white light and much lower.
