Air Force colonel harassed over a UFO group (1982) — An Air Force colonel says he was harassed after founding a UFO group.
According to Leonard Stringfield's later reports, an Air Force colonel said he was harassed after founding a civilian UFO group. He described unwanted attention and pressure that he attributed to official displeasure with his involvement in the subject.
The officer wasn't named in the published account, and the details of the harassment weren't documented. Similar complaints were made by other researchers in the 1970s and 1980s, some of whom later learned through FOIA that they had been monitored. The CIA's 1950s monitoring of civilian groups and the Bennewitz affair show that official interest in UFO researchers was real, though this specific case is unverified.
