Americans for Safe Aerospace (ASA) is an American nonprofit that collects and supports reports of UAP from pilots and other aircrew and campaigns for better official reporting systems. It was co-founded by former Navy F/A-18 pilot Ryan Graves, who serves as its executive director.[1][2]
Background
Graves said that during his Navy career he and other pilots regularly saw objects off the coast of Virginia Beach that had no visible propulsion but could hold position in hurricane-force winds and accelerate to supersonic speed.[1] On 26 July 2023 he testified about UAP before the House Oversight Subcommittee on National Security, the Border and Foreign Affairs, alongside David Fravor and David Grusch.[1][2]
Activities
Before his testimony, Graves said ASA had been in contact with more than 30 UAP witnesses, and more came forward afterwards. He said most were pilots for commercial airlines.[1] He argued that there was still no proper reporting system for civilian pilots, because the Federal Aviation Administration directed them to private groups without official follow-up or analysis.[1] In July 2023 ASA launched a program to support commercial and military aircrew who wanted to share their accounts, with a website to receive their reports.[2]
ASA supported the Safe Airspace for Americans Act, a bipartisan bill introduced in the House by Robert Garcia and Glenn Grothman. It would let aviation personnel report UAP encounters to the FAA with protection from retaliation.[2] At the 2024 Sol Foundation symposium, Graves described ASA's work on machine learning tools for analysing reports.[3]
