Halt led a team into Rendlesham Forest on the night of 27–28 December 1980, after airmen reported lights two nights earlier. He recorded an audio tape describing lights and measured unusual radiation levels. His memo to the UK Ministry of Defence was released in 1983. Halt has since said he believes the event was extraterrestrial and that the U.S. and UK governments covered it up. He spoke at the 2010 National Press Club press conference.
