Jimmy Carter (1924–2024) was the 39th President of the United States (1977–1981) and earlier Governor of Georgia.
UFO sighting

In 1969, before he became governor, Carter saw a bright, changing light in the sky in Leary, Georgia, and later filed a report with a civilian UFO group. During his 1976 campaign he said he would make UFO information public if elected. As president, his science adviser Frank Press passed a request to NASA in 1977 to consider a UFO inquiry, which NASA declined. Attorney Daniel Sheehan said he was shown classified Blue Book material during a related study. Carter later said his sighting was probably not an alien craft.
