Sandia uncle crashed saucer story (1982) — Puthoff relays a story of a scientist who studied a crashed saucer and copied an antigravity device.

According to Jacques Vallée's journals, on 29 September 1982 Hal Puthoff told him a story he had heard from a colleague at Sandia National Laboratories. The colleague's uncle had supposedly studied a crashed saucer in the 1950s and copied an anti-gravity device from it.

The story is at least third-hand: from the uncle to the colleague, to Puthoff, to Vallée. No names, documents or technical details were given. Vallée recorded it as one of many such anecdotes he heard over the years.

Sandia, in Albuquerque, is one of the main U.S. nuclear weapons laboratories and is next to Kirtland Air Force Base, where the Bennewitz affair was unfolding at the same time.
