In 1961 Webb was one of the first investigators to interview Betty and Barney Hill about their abduction claim. He later investigated the 25 May 1995 sighting by an America West airline crew, who reported a huge cigar-shaped object over the Southwest, and wrote a detailed report for the National Aviation Reporting Center on Anomalous Phenomena. He was known for careful investigations.
