The Sol Foundation is an American research and policy organisation focused on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) and the possible implications of non-human intelligence. It was co-founded on 15 August 2023 by Stanford University immunologist Garry Nolan and anthropologist Peter Skafish.[1][2]
Aims
The foundation describes its mission as bringing "methodical, scientifically-robust assessment" to UAP, with a focus on the analysis of physical materials, and as preparing for the social, political and religious consequences if non-human intelligence were confirmed. Physicist Matthew Szydagis, associated with the group, has written about the risks of "catastrophic disclosure", meaning a sudden, uncontrolled revelation.[1][2]
People

Its first symposium was held at Stanford University in November 2023, with speakers including former intelligence community inspector general Charles McCullough, former Pentagon official Christopher Mellon, retired Army colonel Karl Nell and whistleblower David Grusch. People associated with the foundation have included retired Navy Rear Adm. Tim Gallaudet, physicist Kevin Knuth, religious studies scholars Jeffrey Kripal and Diana Walsh Pasulka, Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb and Jacques Vallée.[1][2]
Reception
Supporters see it as an attempt to give the subject academic credibility; skeptics note that several of its figures are among the small circle of advocates whose claims AARO said it could not substantiate.[2][3]
