Marco Rubio (born 1971) is an American politician who represented Florida in the US Senate from 2011 to 2025 and became Secretary of State in 2025. As a leader of the Senate Intelligence Committee he pushed for the June 2021 intelligence report on UAP and later said he had heard first-hand accounts from officials supporting whistleblower David Grusch's claims.[1][2][3]
The 2021 report

In June 2020 the Senate Intelligence Committee, then chaired by Rubio, voted to require the intelligence agencies and the Pentagon to track and analyse unidentified aerial phenomena and to report on them. The result was the preliminary assessment published in June 2021.[4][6][7] After a June 2020 hearing he had asked for the release of Navy footage, saying he worried that a foreign rival might have made "some technological leap", while allowing that the answer might be a "boring" conventional one.[2]
Grusch's claims

In June 2023, after Grusch went public, Rubio, then vice-chairman of the Intelligence Committee, told NewsNation that people in "high positions in our government" had given his committee first-hand accounts that supported Grusch's allegations. Some, he said, had come forward before whistleblower protections were in law, and many were fearful for their jobs or of harm coming to them. He did not say whether he found the claims credible, but called for a "mature" understanding.[3]
Legislation

With Kirsten Gillibrand, Rubio proposed wide-ranging UAP provisions for the 2023 defence bill, some of which were softened in negotiations; the final act expanded the Pentagon's new UAP office and created protections for people reporting UAP information.[5]
Later

Rubio appeared in the 2025 documentary The Age of Disclosure.[1]
