Jon T. Kosloski is an American scientist who became director of the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), its office for investigating unidentified anomalous phenomena, on 26 August 2024. He came to the post on detail from the National Security Agency.[1][2]
Background

Before joining AARO, Kosloski held technical and leadership posts in the NSA's Research Directorate, where he was the agency's subject matter expert in free-space optics. His fields include quantum optics and cryptographic mathematics. According to his official Defense Department biography, he invented an advanced language-agnostic search engine and served at the department's Special Communications Enterprise Office.[1]
AARO director

AARO was set up in July 2022. Its first director, physicist Sean Kirkpatrick, left at the end of 2023, and Tim Phillips served as acting director until Kosloski's appointment.[1][2] Announcing the appointment, Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks said Kosloski had the scientific, technical and policy skills needed to help AARO research and explain UAP for the department, Congress and the public.[1] His early tasks included the second volume of AARO's congressionally required report on the U.S. government's historical involvement with UAP.[1]
In November 2024, presenting AARO's report for fiscal year 2024, Kosloski said the office was still analysing a small number of "true anomalies" that it could not explain.[2][3] In 2026, during the release of government UFO files ordered by President Trump, a report by Kosloski was among the documents published in June.[4]
