Unidentified: Inside America's UFO Investigation is a documentary television series first broadcast by the History channel in 2019. It follows Luis Elizondo, who says he ran the Pentagon's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), and his colleagues at Tom DeLonge's company To The Stars Academy of Arts and Science.[1][2]

The series premiered on Friday 31 May 2019.[2] Besides Elizondo, it features Christopher Mellon, a former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, and Steve Justice, a former Lockheed Martin program director. It is executive produced by DeLonge, the former Blink-182 guitarist, who also appears in it.[1][2] Elizondo says he resigned from the Pentagon because the government was not taking UFOs seriously enough as a national security threat.[1]

The first episode examined the 2004 encounters by the USS Nimitz carrier group, including an interview with an anonymous pilot who had flown with Commander David Fravor and had not spoken publicly before.[2] Other episodes covered the Pentagon UFO videos, the Canneto di Caronia fires in Italy and black triangle sightings.[1]

Although announced as a limited series, History ordered a second season in September 2019, after the U.S. Navy confirmed that clips shown in the series were authentic footage of unidentified aerial objects.[1]

Den of Geek gave the first episode 4.5 out of 5 and praised the credibility of its witnesses.[2] Leslie Kean, author of UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record, said that Elizondo's statements amounted to confirmation that UFOs are real.[1]

Other coverage was more critical. In a 2019 article for The Intercept, a reporter quoted a Pentagon spokesperson who said Elizondo had no responsibilities for AATIP during his time at the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. The article also argued that coverage of the series had glossed over the ties between DeLonge, Elizondo and other former officials, and noted that the journalist George Knapp, a defender of the group, had bought shares in To The Stars.[3] DeLonge has said he was the military's chosen vessel for UFO disclosure.[1]
