Art McQuiddy was the editor of the Roswell Morning Dispatch, one of the town's newspapers, in July 1947.
The Roswell story

Decades later McQuiddy told researchers that on 8 July 1947 he received the base's press release announcing the recovery of a "flying disc" from press officer Walter Haut, whom he knew well. He said the base later asked that the story be called a weather balloon, and he described the confusion in town as reporters from around the world called in. McQuiddy said Haut never told him privately that anything more had happened. His account is one of many recorded by Roswell researchers in the 1980s and 1990s, and it supports the basic timeline of the press release rather than claims of bodies.
