Thomas has said that in 1991 he saw a huge black triangular object rise out of the ocean near the ship and fly away. He described the event decades later, after the 2004 Nimitz "Tic Tac" encounter became public, in interviews collected by researchers interested in Navy UAP reports. His account has not been confirmed by Navy records, but it fits a pattern of reports of objects entering or leaving the sea.
