Eugene Podkletnov is a Russian materials engineer who worked at Tampere University of Technology in Finland in the early 1990s. In 1992 he published a paper claiming that objects above a rapidly spinning, magnetically levitated superconducting disc lost up to about 2% of their weight.

The claim attracted wide attention as possible "gravity shielding". NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center tried to reproduce the experiment, and Boeing's Phantom Works reportedly looked into it in 2002. None of these efforts confirmed the effect. A later claim by Podkletnov about an "impulse gravity generator" was also not reproduced.

Podkletnov's work is often cited in discussions of secret anti-gravity research, but mainstream physicists consider the effect unproven, possibly due to experimental error.
