Coast to Coast AM is an American late-night radio talk show devoted mainly to the paranormal, UFOs and conspiracy theories. Created by broadcaster Art Bell, it became one of the most popular overnight programmes in North America and a major platform for UFO researchers.[1]
History
Bell started a show called West Coast AM on Las Vegas station KDWN in 1978. In 1988 it was renamed Coast to Coast AM and its studio moved to Bell's home in Pahrump, Nevada. Bell hosted on and off, with several retirements and returns, until the early 2000s; he died in April 2018.[1]
Hosts

George Noory has hosted since 2003 and now presents the weeknight shows. Las Vegas journalist George Knapp, known for his reporting on Bob Lazar and Skinwalker Ranch, has hosted weekend editions since 2007. Other hosts have included Ian Punnett, Mike Siegel and John B. Wells.[1]
Audience
The show is distributed by Premiere Networks, a subsidiary of iHeartMedia, and airs seven nights a week on more than 600 U.S. stations as well as in Canada and on satellite radio. At its peak under Bell it reportedly reached more than 10 million listeners a week; more recent estimates put its weekly audience at around 2.5 to 2.75 million.[1]
Guests and criticism

Frequent guests have included Whitley Strieber, Richard C. Hoagland and Linda Moulton Howe. Historian Ronald H. Fritze called the show an especially influential spreader of pseudohistory and pseudoscience, and in 1998 the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry gave Bell its mocking "Snuffed Candle Award".[1]
